The more we know before we arrive, the more likely we finish the repair on the first visit. Here's what helps most.
1. Year, make, model, and engine
Parts differ between engines in the same model. If you're not sure of the engine size, the VIN on your registration or insurance card works.
2. What happened, in order
"It made a clicking noise, then the lights went dim, then nothing" tells us more than "it won't start."
3. Warning lights
Which lights are on, and are any flashing? A photo of the dash helps.
4. Recent work
A new battery last month or brakes done last year changes where we look first.
5. Where the car is
Driveway, apartment lot, workplace, or roadside. We need to know there's a safe, level spot to work and whether the property allows repairs.
